The difficulties in accurately defining and diagnosing VAP are well described. This small study compared neutrophil proteases in BAL in patients with VAP (BAL confirmed culture + clinic criteria), n=12) to non-VAP (BAL micro negative, n=43) ) and healthy controls (n=18).
